Aszód is the capital of the Galga region, an important commercial and educational centre, the gateway of the Nógrád settlements to the M3 motorway, and the main road is road 3. All these factors together place a huge traffic burden on the city. 

The Sustainable Mobility Plan has been developed in order to systematise and prioritise existing ideas and those that have been identified through extensive data collection. The aim was not to accelerate the process of motorisation, but to provide incentives to encourage a slow but steady modal shift. The validation of the plan was preceded by a process of socialisation.
